Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be cult members, killed a teenage girl on Thursday at Amarata area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. It was learnt that the suspected cult members killed the teenager, identified simply as Seiyefa Fred, aged 16, for allegedly refusing to hand over her mobile phone to them.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.
The PPRO said that after the victim was shot, she was rushed to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.
Shedding light on the murder, the command’s spokesman said, “On November 8, 2018, at about 8.30pm, unknown suspected cult members at Amarata, Yenagoa, shot one Seiyefa Fred, a female aged 16, while trying to dispossess her of her mobile phone. “The command has embarked on community engagement meetings with relevant youth groups in a bid to stem the tide of cult-related activities in the state. Members of the public should continue to assist the police with useful information to combat crime in Bayelsa State,” the police spokesman said.
